In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame®, Harrison Schools is excited to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention program to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. This inspiring, weeklong summer experience provides opportunities for open-ended, hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering and more! During this action-packed, confidence-boosting program, young innovators will: • Develop their own sports ball and customize a light-up game with a unique brand and logo as they explore athletics, design and innovation • Discover the science of light through illuminating inventions and fluorescent animals, then build a one-of-a-kind Glow Box using circuitry and ultraviolet light • Embark on an epic global operation to tackle water challenges around the world, learning the role that water plays with the help of a robotic lab-on-wheels • Star as a contestant on a prototyping game show, molding and shaping ideas into awesome inventions using everyday items and a DIY toolbox Early registration discounts are available! Have you seen our HPS BAM boxes? Media Specialist Melissa McDonald (Skyline Heights Elementary) wrote and received a grant from the Harrison Public Schools Foundation to create these fun learning resources for students. BAM stand for Books, Art, and Making. The boxes contain creative learning projects, specifically designed to coordinate with selected library books. Third and fourth grade students have the opportunity to check out the BAM boxes. Each week, the BAM spinner is spun to see which two students from each class will get to take the boxes home for the week. Each box contains a contents list for them to double check as they repack and return the box, and students get to keep whatever they create! Great job, Mrs. McDonald! #GoGobs

Harrison Public Schools presents Camp Invention
Our third and fourth graders absolutely loved our first graphic novelist Gustav Carlson last week! He walked each group through choosing a character and how artists make decisions about adding details to the character based on their environment and other factors. For example he drew a Goblin with each group ( draw / write about what you know ) and had them add details based on what nationality the Goblin was. The kids chose a Spanish Conquistador Goblin, an alien Goblin, and a Scottish Goblin. His originals are now placed in frames and students may take a copy to color or for inspiration.
