UAMS and NARMC nurses

Harrison Middle School students are enjoying a unique experience this week - the opportunity to walk through and tour a simulated human brain.  Kara Snider, Trauma Coordinator and Registrar at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC), set up this event to better educate students on recognizing the signs of a stroke.

The brain simulation experience is provided at no charge by the University of Arkansas Medical Center (UAMS) in Little Rock.  UAMS nurses conduct student tours of the brain, while providing valuable instruction on recognizing the signs of a stroke and how to respond.

Using the acronym BE FAST, the signs to remember are:

Balance (sudden loss of balance)
Eye (changes in vision in one or both eyes)
Face (facial droop or uneven smile)
Arm (arm numbness or arm weakness)
Speech (slurred speech, difficult speaking or understanding)
Time (Call 911 and get to the hospital immediately)

We are very grateful to NARMC and UAMS for this great opportunity!
