Arvest Team presents Communication boards to Harrison Public Schools

Children with limited verbal communication, such as autistic children or children with multiple disabilities, can face difficulties communicating with their teachers and their peers. Striving to provide better inclusion for all, Harrison Schools team members Tammie Bright and Candace Waters explored new assistive technologies. Through their research, playground communication boards were discovered.

A communication board is a collection of images specifically selected that allows non-verbal and limited-verbal students to communicate by simply pointing to or touching one or more images. These tools provide students with a new avenue of communication, allowing them to express their needs, feelings, and wants to those around them, thereby making the playground more inclusive and enjoyable for all.

New customized playground communication boards were recently purchased for Harrison students by our friends at ARVEST bank. They were installed on all playgrounds by Harrison Schools maintenance team members and officially presented today.

We are so grateful for the entire Arvest team and their continued support of our students.
