Local Food for Schools Cooperative Program

Students at Harrison Schools as well as local farmers are benefiting this year from a USDA initiative to fund the purchase of locally produced beef for utilization in school lunches. Harrison Schools Food Service Director, Jonathan Dove, learned of the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program last year, applying for and receiving $30,000 in funding.

Working with Harrison's own Natural State Beef Company, the school district purchased and utilized locally sourced 85/15 ground beef for use in school lunches such as spaghetti, tacos, and chili.

The Harrison School district serves approximately 190,260 breakfasts, 269,768 lunches, and 40,003 snacks annually.
