High school students are often encouraged to “aim high” regarding their future careers….but this can be a difficult task if they don’t know the choices available to them. Career exploration opportunities allow students to become better informed about their choices and therefore make better long-term career decisions.
A group of students from Harrison schools spent the morning at Northark Technical Center today, participating in a career exploration event organized by HHS College and Career Readiness coaches Ashley Massengale and Kelly Regan. Prior to the event, each student identified a specific career area of interest. Upon arrival, students were grouped by their targeted interests and led through valuable hands-on activities and learning opportunities.
The Northark Technical Center (NTC) serves high schools in Baxter, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Newton, and Searcy counties, providing students with the unique opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school through hands-on training in several technical fields. These services are provided at no cost to students. Students can finish their NTC programs with as many as 30 college hours toward a higher degree or certification. Programs available include robotics & manufacturing, automotive service technology, collision repair, construction, health professions, HVAC/R technology, outdoor power equipment, and welding.
