For the Love of Reading student packet and books

Reading aloud to children is proven to provide them with numerous benefits. The landmark report "Becoming a Nation of Readers" concluded that “the single most important activity for building knowledge for their eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” The University of Rochester Warner School of Education states that through read alouds, children's vocabulary expands, logic and problem-solving skills are strengthened, self-confidence is increased, imagination skills grow, social-emotional skills are built, and much more. It is so important for students to experience and love reading…..and, it’s fun!

To support this goal, Harrison Preschool has proclaimed this February as "For the Love of Reading" month, setting a goal of 1,400 total books to be read. Teachers are reading to students, and guests are coming in to read as well.

Each child took home a packet of ten construction paper hearts, along with a note asking parents to set a goal of reading ten preschool level books with their child this month. The preschool director, Mrs. Jenny Cowling, even has books available to send home for the project if desired.

When a book is completed, the family writes the title of the book on one of the hearts and sends it back to school. All of the hearts will be displayed on the preschool walls, allowing students and staff to celebrate the individual and group achievements.

Go Gobs - and GOOD JOB, Harrison Preschool!
