Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a high school organization that helps students prepare for careers and business, annually offers Esports competitions for students across the nation. Electronic sports (Esports) are structured video game tournaments where students play in team competitions. Through Esports, students develop skills including teamwork, communication, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and digital literacy.

One of this year’s competitions, Rocket League, began in October of 2024. The initial stage of competition required students to construct and submit a one- to two- page research paper showcasing their depth of understanding and analysis of this rapidly evolving industry.

Round two of the contest involved 3 versus 3 game play in a single elimination bracket-style competition. Winners in these rounds advanced to regional competitions.

At the end of round two, the top ten teams in the nation were named. These teams, by invitation only, advanced to final round play. In this round, team members created and delivered a collaborative presentation articulating the essential elements that contributed to effective teamwork, critical thinking, leadership, and planning.

Harrison high school was the only school to represent the state of Arkansas in the national competitions. We are very proud to say that HHS students Gavin Green, Layton Luker, & Josh McLean completed the endeavor by placing 4th in the nation. What an accomplishment!

Good job, Gavin, Layton, and Josh!
Good job to FBLA sponsor Matthew Massey!
