Representatives from the University of Arkansas spoke to students in grades 9-12 today at Harrison High School's Performing Arts Center. UARK Chancellor Dr. Charles F. Robinson shared information about U of A's campus, resources, and programs of study, telling students "We will give you the best you can get at U of A. We are Razorbacks!"
Dr. Suzanne McCray, Dean of Admissions and Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Services, emphasized the university's commitment to helping each student find their path. Dr. McCray encouraged current freshmen to begin working on their resumes now. She then discussed an extensive variety of opportunities available at U of A, including scholarships, Honors College, study abroad options, research appointments, tutoring opportunities, art, music and much more. The college has over 500 organizations available to students. "Whatever it is you are dreaming about, we want to help you achieve that!", Dr. McCray stated. U of A wants to help you connect with your dream, help educate and prepare you for your dream, and then help you launch your dream career through our "Future Hub".
Megan Garland, Associate Director of Arkansas Recruitment, proudly announced that of all the Harrison High School seniors who have applied, 100% have been awarded scholarships. This year, $178,000 has been awarded to Goblin graduates.
Garland also discussed options for internships and job opportunities for U of A students. She stated that not only are three of the nation's Fortune 500 companies based in northwest Arkansas (Walmart, Tyson Foods, and JB Hunt Transport Services), but impressively 325 of those Fortune 500 companies have offices in northwest Arkansas.
Students interested in applying to U of A are encouraged to apply as early as possible during their senior year. Applications open on July 15 and available on the U of A website.
Chancellor Robinson ended the meeting by asking students to call the Hogs. When asked, sophomore Jeffrey Nelson volunteered to lead the call. Great job, Jeffrey!
