Communication Boards

Last fall, we featured a story about Playground Communication Boards generously purchased for our students by our local ARVEST bank. Today, Arvest posted the video above talking about the project.

Communication boards provide valuable assistance to children with limited verbal communication skills, allowing them to demonstrate their needs, wants, and emotions to others. The boards are specifically designed to allow students to communicate by pointing to or touching one or more images.

Candace Waters (Instructional Specialist, Harrison Preschool) states "As educators, we try to break barriers as much as possible. We do a lot of communication and picture schedules inside the classroom, so we thought - why not take it outside?"

Other school districts saw Harrison's announcement and reached out to see if they could utilize these resources for their students as well.

"As educators, it is our way to come up with as many ideas as we can to help the students succeed," said Waters. "Just to know that there is a way for them to communicate outside of the school building...that makes me happy to know that is something we can do for them!"

Thank you, Arvest!
