Kindergarten students release butterflies

Harrison Kindergarten students have been studying metamorphosis - the process by which a caterpillar changes into a butterfly. Each classroom has raised butterflies for the past few weeks, observing and learning more about these processes.

In the larva stage, the caterpillar grows and eats as much as possible, consuming large amounts of food to prepare for the next transformation.

In the pupa stage, the caterpillar transforms into a chrysalis. During this stage, the caterpillar is safely inside a protective casing while it changes into a butterfly.

In the final stage, the chrysalis coating splits open and the adult butterfly is ready to be released.

Students in Mrs. Winkle's classroom released their four butterflies today and wished them well as they flew away!
